Kathryn Bates, DMD

Dr. Kathryn T. Bates is a friendly and compassionate general dentist who is proud to serve patients alongside Dr. Amanda Darty in Jasper, Alabama. A native of Dothan, AL, Dr. Bates earned her Bachelor's degree in Biology from Birmingham-Southern College before receiving her Doctorate of Dental Medicine from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Dentistry in 2017. It was during dental school that she met her husband, Dr. William Bates.

After graduating, Dr. Bates practiced in the small town of Albion, Michigan while her husband completed his orthodontic residency at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. In 2020, her and her husband returned to Birmingham where they started up their own family orthodontics practice, Bates Orthodontics, dedicated to personalized care with locations in Birmingham and Jasper, AL. She joined Dr. Darty’s team in January 2024, originally helping out while Dr. Darty recovered from hand surgery—and quickly found a home in the practice. Dr. Bates now sees patients part-time on Mondays and Wednesdays, and she loves building lasting relationships with the Jasper community.

Dr. Bates serves as adjunct faculty at both UAB School of Dentistry in Birmingham and the UTHSC College of Dentistry in Memphis, TN. Dr. Bates is an active member of the American Dental Association and is passionate about providing gentle, high-quality care in a welcoming environment. She takes time to listen to each patient’s needs and works hard to ensure every visit is as comfortable as possible.

Outside the office, Dr. Bates enjoys traveling, going to concerts (especially the Dave Matthews Band), and spending time with her husband and their beloved dog, Roux.
